May 15, 2018 KNOPPIX Live CDs are available for download separately with LXDE. As mentioned before, this is the Live DVD of the KNOPPIX Linux distribution. A Live CD edition also exists on Softpedia, built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment. Knoppix is a Debian-based live CD that uses LXDE (at least in the default) as its desktop and includes most (if not all) of the software you'd want for a desktop system. I was advised by someone at this forum to get a Knoppix CD to try to boot up my Win XP machine (Toshiba) because I had gotten an error message of 'unmountable boot volume' and it wouldn't progress into the WINXP program. So far, I've done everything as per instructions - set my bios to boot from the CD, started up with the CD in the drive, etc. Nothing works. Knoppix Live Cd DownloadI can hear the CD starting to run but my screen proceeds on to the usual Win XP safe mode, etc screen like it did before and goes on to the blue screen with the same error message. The CD doesn't proceed on to do any boot or any further action inside the drive. I checked the disc to make sure it had no smudges, looks okay. I know the drive works because I watched a movie on it last week which worked fine. Knoppix Live Cd BootIt seems like my machine can't read this disc. Any suggestions? My laptop is five yrs old, SATA drive, intel processor.I'm glad I only paid 3.95 for this disc because it sure doesn't work for me so far.btw, I used the F12 key to get into the bios setup area to make sure it is set to boot from CD and saved that setting. I don't know what else I can do with Knoppix unless someone else has other ideas.thanks so much! So I already have a SATA hdd enclosure ordered.my plan is to pull the old drive, put it into the enclosure,(cost 6.99) buy a new drive with Win XP on it ( maybe get one for $60 or so),put that into my laptop, and then tranfer the data from the old drive to the new one. The enclosure is supposed to be plug and play USB cable to go from old drive to my new drive. That's as far as I've gotten in my thinking on this.
